Today we are participating in a HUGE Breast Cancer Blogging Event! Hundreds of blogs around the globe today are encouraging our readers to take a moment out of your day and donate $5 or $10 to Jacqueline Reitz, a Breast Cancer 3 Day walker. Jackie is a fellow blogger based out of Dallas, and she’s on the 3day team “Betties for Boobies”.
While the original hope was to include over 300 blogs, only time will tell how many have participated, so be sure to check out the www.bettiesforboobies.com blog tomorrow for more information.
If just ONE of the readers from each of the 300 blogs takes a moment and donates $10, that will raise over $3,000.00 in the fight against Breast Cancer. AMAZING!
So help us out. Let’s make this a tremendous success. Head on over to Jackie’s fund raising page (it’s all tax deductible!) at http://www.the3day.org/goto/jackier and send her some donation love! Totals will be posted on the team’s blog tomorrow, to see what an impact we were all able to make!

I think it would be hard to find someone who hasn’t been touched by breast cancer in some way or another. For me, I have breast cancer on both sides of my family and I sometimes feel like it’s more of a when then a maybe someday.  So I would like to ask a favor of anyone who comes across this blog  post.  Please help support a wonderful woman make and surpass her goal of raising money for breast cancer research. She has already participated in the Breast Cancer 3 day in 2009 and is going to participate again in 2010. That means that in the last two years she has raised over $5000 for breast cancer research. Isn’t that amazing!

I have never personally met Jackie but she is just that an amazing person – whether it is seeing her recons on The Fabric Floozie, her photography, or just being an awesome mom and friend.

Here is a quick little bio for her:

My name is Jackie Reitz. I’m 25 years old and I have 2 kids. Lily is 2 and Brendan is 5. My primary job aside from being a mother is as a photographer for Sixpence Weddings based out of Denton, Tx. I love to craft in all ways. I enjoy refinishing furniture, sewing, re-purposing clothing, and more. I blog about my crafts at www.thefabricfloozie.com, though that has fallen by the wayside lately as illness has struck our house recently in the form of RSV for Lily and Strep for Myself.
My passion in finding a cure for Breast Cancer began when I was 22 years old. I was 4 months pregnant with Lily when my OB found a large lump in my left breast. Since I was pregnant, there was little they could do more than an ultra sound and biopsy. The ultrasound showed us that the mass was a dense, fibrous tumor… not the cyst they’d hoped for. A core-needle biopsy showed us that the tumor was “likely benign” but that we would need to keep an eye on it every 6-12 months forever, or until it went away on it’s own, which they sometimes do. While we are still watching it, I had to endure many difficulties through this journey. Including being denied for health insurance because of a tumor that “could become” Breast Cancer. And being turned away for a mammogram because I was “too young” to have breast cancer. By the way, this is a horrible myth. I’ve learned that not only is Breast Cancer on the rise in young women, but Breast Cancer in women under 30 is typically more aggressive than ANY other range of Breast Cancer and, more often than not, will result in death. I pushed forward, knowing that I didn’t have just myself to fight for any more. I had my daughter and my son. They need a Mom, and their Mom needs them. So while I came out of my experience healthy and with a great plan for the future, I know that most women my age who find tumors in their breasts aren’t so lucky. I will walk or crew EVERY YEAR that I am physically able to until they find a cure.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that our microwave was nasty dirty. I put cleaning it off another couple of weeks until yesterday when I decided it was time to just get it over with. I started scrubbing with a sponge and gunked the sponge up with what can only be described as sludge and scratched the paint off the door(not cool man). I was about to give up when I remembered something I had seen on How clean is your house – if you ever need motivation to get off your butt and clean this show will do it. Anyway, on there they said the easiest way to clean a messy microwave is to get a bowl, put lemon juice in it, and microwave for 5 minutes. I was skeptical but I did it. After the 5 minutes I took the bowl out and wiped and stuff just came right off NO SCRUBBING. Now don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t all pretty and shiny but it was way better then scrubbing that crap off. After about 5 more times there were definitely parts that were sparkling and there are still parts that need to be cleaned some more. For me, I’m a lazy cleaner on my best day and this worked great. I could set the microwave for 5 minutes go do whatever and then come back and wipe and then repeat.

Is it Friday already? This week has flown by.  Last week I posted a video of Mitch Hedberg and today I thought I would share another of my favorite comedians. This is Demetri Martin, I think he’s hilarious.  This video is long and it has some cussing. One of my favorites jokes starts around 4:40ish.

Here are some of the funny things I stumbled upon this week.

Having spent 2 years living in a dorm and being an awesome procrastinator I found this hilarious.

How to write a paper in college/university:

1. Sit in a straight, comfortable chair in a well lit place in front of your computer.

2. Log onto MSN and ICQ (be sure to go on away!). Check your email.

3. Read over the assignment carefully, to make certain you understand it.

4. Walk down to the vending machines and buy some chocolate to help you concentrate.

5. Check your email.

6. Call up a friend and ask if he/she wants to go to grab a coffee.  Just to get settled down and ready to work.

7. When you get back to your room, sit in a straight, comfortable chair in a clean, well lit place.

8. Read over the assignment again to make absolutely certain you understand it.

9. Check your email.

10. You know, you haven’t written to that kid you met at camp since fourth grade. You’d better write that letter now and get it out of the way so you can concentrate.

11. Look at your teeth in the bathroom mirror.

12. Grab some mp3z off of kazaa.

13. Check your email. ANY OF THIS SOUND FAMILIAR YET?!

14. MSN chat with one of your friends about the future. (ie summer plans).

15. Check your email.

16. Listen to your new mp3z and download some more.

17. Phone your friend on the other floor and ask if she’s started writing yet. Exchange derogatory emarks about your prof, the
course, the college, the world at large.

18. Walk to the store and buy a pack of gum. You’ve probably run out.

19. While you’ve got the gum you may as well buy a magazine and read it.

20. Check your email.

21. Check the newspaper listings to make sure you aren’t missing something truly worthwhile on TV.

22. Play some solitare (or age of legends!).

23. Check out bored.com.

24. Wash your hands.

25. Call up a friend to see how much they have done, probably haven’t started either.

26. Look through your housemate’s book of pictures from home. Ask who everyone is.

27. Sit down and do some serious thinking about your plans for the future.

28. Check to see if bored.com has been updated yet.

29. Check your email and listen to your new mp3z.

30. You should be rebooting by now, assuming that windows is crashing on schedule.

31. Read over the assignment one more time, just for heck of it.

32. Scoot your chair across the room to the window and watch the sunrise.

33. Lie face down on the floor and moan.

34. Punch the wall and break something.

35. Check your email.

36. Mumble obscenities.

37. 5am – start hacking on the paper without stopping. 6am -paper is finished.

38. Complain to everyone that you didn’t get any sleep because you had to write that stupid paper.

This is funny too, it should be titled payback is a bitch. Make sure you scroll to see both pics.

This “youthful insight” is always funny too.

I finally decided to bite the bullet and update my Wordpress again.  They have already hit 2.8.3 so I figured it might be time.  I had a hell of a time moving from 2.7.whatever to 2.8.  My blog didn’t work for weeks and if it wouldn’t have been for importing to facebook I would have lost my posts since moving to wordpress (even though I exported my posts and thought I backed up before updating)

I was so incredibly nervous I had butterflys and sweaty palms. This time I pulled out all the stops.  I exported my blog, and I backed it up 3 different ways.  Thankfully it appears everything is in working order. At least, on the dashboard side of things.  Now to see how everything else is looking.

Here are some of the funny things that I Stumbled Upon this week.

I came across a website the other day that had Mitch Hedberg jokes written out and cleaned up, neither is the way to see his jokes.  Really his comedy is all about delivery and I don’t think that can be conveyed in type.  He is the only comic that I’ve ever forked over the cash to see perform, Big Daddy and I both thought he was hilarious.  Sadly, about a year after we saw him he passed away of a drug overdose.

And this not so much funny as kinda interesting.

When Michael Jackson died about a week and a half ago I wasn’t devastated, I was shocked and it seemed a little unreal but other than that it was life as normal.  There were no tears shed I called Big Daddy in disbelief and said “you will not believe who died today”. Like most people my age and older I grew up listening to Michael Jackson’s songs.  Some couldn’t keep you from dancing and some moved you more emotionally then physically.  One of my all time favorite songs though was “Human Nature”.

I hadn’t planned on watching the memorial service, I didn’t even know that it was on until an hour into it but I sat down and watched it and the little girl in me cried.  I didn’t cry for the Michael Jackson that he had been in recent years the one who might or might not have done some pretty horrible and weird things but the Michael Jackson of my childhood.  The guy who made amazing music and inspired people to wear one glove and moonwalk everywhere.

It didn’t take me long to recognize the song when John Mayer took the stage and his rendition was beautiful.  The way he made his guitar ‘talk’ was reminiscent of Peter Frampton.  The other performers were wonderful but this one brought me to tears.

Today, instead of celebrating the first birthday of beautiful Katarina, we mourned the one year anniversary of her death. At times it still seems unreal and it always seems unfair. It is amazing how one little girl, who we only got to meet through the kicks in her mommy’s tummy, has effected our lives. She no doubt would have been a spitfire like her older sisters and the character that she was named after. It saddens me that we never got to hold her, or shower her with our love. I know that she is being showered with love where she is at and that she will never know pain, sadness, or hunger. She is in a perfect place and I look forward to the day that I will get to see her.

If you want an Earth friendly product here is the place to look. They have everything that you will need to clean yourself, the kids, and the house. Also, unless the bottles are minuscule the prices seem really nice on the pocketbook.

The other website, and it might fall more under frugal then green, is Swap Thing . If you are familiar with freecycle, and like using it, you might check out this website since it is very similar.

Sometime in the next week or so I’ll be moving my blog. I’ve been working on a website, www.monkeyandaprincess.com , and I’m going to host my blog over there. The website is up, feel free to take a look. I’m still working on it so don’t judge me for broken links and such.
